The basic definition for Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space. An interior designer is someone who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such projects. For an event, and interior designer is a must. They have better functioning ideas to enhance and ensure the best results in limited resources.
Interior designers make indoor spaces functional, safe, and
beautiful by determining space requirements and selecting essential and
decorative items, such as colors, lighting, and materials. We must be
able to draw, read, and edit blueprints. The basic idea to work around
with a space is having a theme. If not a theme atleast a color code or
any basic idea about what the event is going to turn out like. Once you
know what you need to work around. You can play along with the other
stuff such as colors, pattern, furnitures, extra decor, lighting and
When you know the basic interior design principles you can transform any space to look fabulous.
The designer should know every small detail about the event. The audience, the budgeting and what type of
event they clients want it to be. Once there is a clean plan designed, you can sense how everything feels cohesive and put together. It feels just right.
The visual weight in a room is known as balance. In any design, balance creates a feeling of equilibrium. It is all about equalizing or approximating the visual weight of objects. Everything in that place should be appreciated equally and have a sense of togetherness. Balance is created not just through shape, but through color, pattern, and texture as well. There are three different kinds of balance:
Symmetrical or formal: Traditional or formal spaces call for symmetrical balance where the space is evenly split into two sides that mirror each other. For example, two chairs on either side of a table can be said to be symmetrically balanced. This kind of balance is easy to achieve as design elements are similar, repeated on each side. If you are not careful, this kind of balance can become monotonous and boring. You need to keep in mind that no matter how similar the events are, the clients always want their designs to be different and more unique.
Asymmetrical or Informal is different and more fun to work with. The visual weights of lines, colors, forms, and textures are balanced without exact duplication. It is not as ordered as symmetrical balance and can be
more complex and interesting. You need to be more careful and sure about the designs as the variety might look good separately, but might not be a good one when it is out together. For instance, a sofa can be balanced by placing two chairs on the other side.
Radial balance is achieved when there is a central focal point with other elements radiating from it or around it. An example would be a round dining table, with chairs arranged around it. There is a lot of repetition of form, texture, and color. Anything can be the center of attention here. You need to keep he crowd attached and attracted to the center cause that is where is the happening stuff of the event.
Harmony is created when all the elements act together to create a unified message. As rhythm can create excitement, harmony creates a sense of restfulness. For instance, you can create harmony by using just one color, even though your forms vary greatly in shape, size, and texture. For example blue, the color blue has various shades. Different shades depict different feelings. The decor can vary from dark shades to pale shades to pastels, and nature and light soothing sides. This as a whole creates an amazing vibe throughout. Even different it is still the same.
You can achieve this by using the same color or shape at different intervals maintaining the theme and making sure it’s not clustered up at one place. Here
again we need to keep a check whether it is rightly balanced. Its purpose is to move your eye around the room. For instance, you can establish a rhythm by using a color in the pillows, picking it up in a painting, and echoing it again in a rugs and curtains. Also matching napkin colors with the chair covers will be a wonderful idea. Rhythm in design is similar to that in music, all about creating patterns of repetition and contrast to create visual interest These repetitions will help carry your eye around the room.
A room where everything gets alot of importance will seem either scattered or boring. You need an anchor. Architectural spaces often have points of interest such as a balcony or a window with a beautiful view. You can choose to enhance the built-in focal point by arranging furniture around it to emphasize it. Every venue has a good site. Emphasizing that place is when the designer has done a good job. In a room that lacks such a built-in point of interest, you can create one through groupings of furniture or using an unusual or large piece or having an unusual wall hanging that attracts enough attention. Different wall setups can also add on to it. Beautiful walls do wonders with your venue look.
All the above mentioned should be in the right proportion.
Proportion is the ratio between the size of one part to another, and scale is how the size of one object relates to another or to the space in which it is placed.
Some proportional relationships are more pleasing than others. The ratio of the smaller section to the larger section should be the same as that of the larger section to the whole. This proportion is present in nature, and artists, designers and architects have used it well. They should know what type of furnishing and decor will go better with what kind of place, keeping in mind the size and also if the place has alot of pillars or other show walls to play with.
Interior design and interior decorating are often mistaken for being the same thing, but the terms are not completely interchangeable. Interior design is a profession that requires specific schooling and formal training, including space planning, furniture design, and architecture. An interior decorator does not have that formal training and focuses on the aesthetics and the surface appearance of a space. Who you would hire depends on whether you have any structural work or space planning to be done or you need someone to plan the decor only.
Choosing a color palette is an essential part of interior design. While you could have a different style and
color scheme in each room, often you will want to tie the whole dwelling together. You’ll want to consider the right colors for a small room, as well as the right colors and patterns for a large room.
Decorating a too-large room can be as challenging as dealing with a space that is too small, but decorating a large room is where you can use alot of ideas together, to make it look even better.
When confronted with a large room, especially a large empty room, many clients feel overwhelmed. But decorating a large room can be fun since a large room isn’t near as limited as a small room is in regards to furnishings and color palettes.
Mixing patterns in home decor is one of the more advanced parts of interior design. Varying the scale of patterns and textures a wonderful way to add contrast and interest in a large space. Patterns can be bold in a large space, but don’t neglect to mix and match. Patterns don’t have to match, but they need to complement and coordinate with each other. This is done by considering color, size, and scale.
Consider the scale of your room in regards to your
furnishings. If your room is large but has low ceilings, keep the furnishings low to create an appearance of height. However, if your large room has high ceilings, low-to-the-ground furnishings may appear lost in the space. When decorating a large room, consider in investing in architectural elements such as columns or moldings to enhance and furnish your large space. These items can work more effectively than furniture to create warmth and beauty in a large room.
In a large room, abstain from pushing all of your furniture against the walls. This may feel awkward in a large space, and in a large living room, it will make guests feel like they need to yell to be heard. Keep the furnishings within three feet of each other to create warm and inviting areas. This will make the guests more comfortable and feel home like.
It might not always seem like it, but lighting is one of the most important elements of a room. Make sure your room is lit appropriately Chandeliers are a great addition to just about any room, but knowing what size is best and how high to hang them can be tricky. Also the design of the chandelier and lights uses keeping in mind their colour js also equally important. Your budget on decors is what everybody should keep it in mind.
Write down the financial limitations and how much you can rally spend only on decorations.
Time frame of the event is very important to know which time slot of the day you have chosen for the event. The decorations planned for the day time never suits the night time or the evening. The decorations have to be specific for morning, day time, evening and night functions.
Every procedure requires a streamline flow or otherwise you’ll end up with the worst event decorations ever. Take a piece of paper and note down every single information on the following. Make sure you don’t miss a single data.
If you have already chosen a location for the event, note down every dimension of it. For example if it is a hall write down the width and length of the floor. If the location has special geometrical spaces, note down a description on what it looks like. If it is covered with a roof, get a rough idea on whether the space is high and spacious or a bit packed. If the location is in outdoors, then note the surrounding, including the landscape, view, natural resources around the in the location. Keeping in mind the above points you are all ready to design your event in the best way possible, leaving your clients awestruck.
